EMERGENCY PLANNING

Emergency Planning Basic (2 days)

Does your organization have an emergency response plan? Do you as an employee know how the emergency response plan works in an emergency situation? When was your plan developed? When was it last up dated? When was the plan last exercised? What lessons were learnt from this exercise?

Developing an emergency response plan is an enormous and somewhat intimidating task. How do we develop an emergency response plan? How many persons should be involved in its development? What needs to go into the plan and in what order?

We look at the reasons for having a plan and the Emergency Management System. We look at the two major elements of an Emergency Management System - Emergency Preparedness and Emergency Response.

What sections are required in an effective Emergency Response Plan and what information should go into each section? What type of training should be held and when will it take place?

What is a Risk/Hazard Analysis and how do we conduct it? What do we look for when conducting an analysis? What is the difference between a man-made and a natural hazard?

What are the elements of an emergency response organization? What are the duties and responsibilities of this organization? How many people are involved in the organization? What is the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), how do we set it up and what equipment should be located in this facility? Where are the primary and secondary EOC located?

How are your employees alerted to an emergency situation? How do you declare an emergency and what are the levels of emergency in the organization?

What specific plans do you have in place in your organization for an emergency situation? How do you get back to normal operations? What are some recovery activities that are required to return the organization back to a normal operation mode?

Take ERMC's two day Emergency Planning - Basic training workshop and learn the ins and outs of the development of an Emergency Response Plan. This highly participatory workshop will introduce you to the basics of Emergency Planning. Completion of this workshop will give the participant a basic knowledge of the elements of the workings of an Emergency Response Plan.

With your new skills, you will be able to develop an Emergency Response Plan for your organization.
